As part of Rockland County’s efforts to go “green,” County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef announces the launch of a new website, www.RenewRockland.org. It will serve as a one-stop resource for residents, businesses and organizations to find rebates, incentives and grants to lower energy costs and conserve resources. The RenewRockland.org website can also be accessed through the Rockland County website, www.rocklandgov.com , by clicking on the top right icon, “www.RenewRockland.org.”


The Mental Health Association of Rockland County, 230 Ramapo Road in Garnerville needs volunteers: You can do a great deed – One hour a week or 4 hours a month. Help a person with mental illness. Join the COMPEER Program of MHA of Rockland. The volunteer and client are matched, trained and supported. Together they re-enter the community, go shopping and see a movie or just a cup of coffee. Simple things on a personal level help reduce stigma and fear. To volunteer call 429-1417 x27.


The Historical Society of Rockland County, 20 Zukor Road in New City presents “Images of Rockland in Photographs and Words”. The exhibit features the photographs and words of Arthur H. Gunther, Journal-News Editorial Page Editor and author of “The Column Rule”. The exhibit runs June 27 – August 29 (Wednesday to Sunday, 12-4PM). The Haverstraw Brick Museum, 12 Main Street in Haverstraw is presenting the following events:

The monthly Antique Appraisals by Rick Ricca at the Museum are cancelled for the summer, they will resume on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 1PM-4PM.

On Saturday, Aug 14, the Museum will be holding a Tag Sale Fund-raiser from 1-4PM. Articles include books, dishes, clothes and household items and range in price from $25 and up.

Nyack Toastmasters provides a fun, low-pressure environment where adults can enhance their communication and presentation skills. Members build their confidence by practicing before an audience of friendly and supportive peers. Toastmasters learn by doing, polishing their own skills by helping others to improve as well.

Suffern's American Legion Post #859 will hold monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 8pm at the Post Headquarters, located at the top of Pavillion Rd, just off of Rt. 202, in Suffern.

HANDS (Healing And Nurturing Distraught Survivors), 9 Scott Dr. in New City, sponsors a free bereavement support group for parents who lost a child. It meets on the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8pm. There are also 10 week group sessions available for the newly bereaved. Also, a Grieving Fathers Group is now established for fathers who lost their sons. Call 634-6706 for further information.
