The 8-year-old great-grandson of New Square’s Grand Rabbi and spiritual leader, Rabbi David Twersky, died Friday in a boating accident on the Hudson River near Haverstraw Bay Park. Published reports said Yosef Goldman, who was visiting the area with his family from Israel, was one of seven children with an adult on the boat around 1:30 Friday afternoon when it overturned. They were all wearing life jackets, but Yosef reportedly drifted away from the boat while the others were able to hold on. He was taken unconscious to Nyack Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was buried in Monsey that afternoon. About an hour before that accident, a woman in her 30s died after she reportedly drove her car down a Hudson River boat ramp in Verplanck, just south of Peekskill. She was the only one in the car, which was found submerged in about 10 feet of water. The woman was not identified, and Westchester authorities are investigating the incident.
