Airmont’s Deputy Mayor was indicted last week by a Rockland County Grand Jury on more than 100 Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges. Rockland D.A. Tom Walsh says the charges against 47 year-old Brian Downey stem from a search warrant executed at his home by D.A. detectives and agents from the Homeland Security Investigations Task Force. The D.A’s office was tipped off that U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted a package containing a firearm silencer, but deceptively described as a “motorcycle noise reduction exhaust pipe” that was to be delivered to Downey’s home. The search uncovered twelve firearm silencers, nineteen assault rifles, more than 85 high-capacity magazines, and several fake federal and state law enforcement Shields and IDs. We contacted deputy mayor Downey for comment, but did not hear back.
