Area officials are slamming the governor’s recently-passed state budget. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says plans to stop sharing federal Medicaid savings with local governments will require counties to pick up a larger share of the State’s Medicaid program. The budget reportedly includes phasing out the Affordable Care Act-enhanced Federal Medical Assistance Program funding over the next three years instead of all at once as initially proposed. Rockland State Senator Bill Weber suggested the move could result in counties across the state needing to raise property taxes between 7% and 14% as early as next year.
