Demolition began yesterday of the old Jawonio campus building in New City that’s now being replaced. Built in 1958, the building was taken apart slowly to make room for parking to support a new building that’s already in operation on the 16-acre site off Little Tor Road. Jawonio was first established nearly 75 years ago, and Immediate Past CEO Jill Warner says the values and community spirit that put the building up brick-by-brick in 1958 still exist today…

Jawonio, which provides services for those with developmental disabilities, behavioral health challenges, and chronic medical conditions, has raised about seven million of their ten-million-dollar goal to complete the new building construction project. Jawonio has 900 staffers in Rockland and Westchester supporting 3,000 children, adults and families.

Rockland Community College is celebrating Women’s History month, with a variety of virtual activities and programs designed for students, their families, faculty and staff. Sara Macel co-chairs RCC’s Women’s History Department, and says the month kicked off with the global celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, an annual focal point in the movement for women’s rights…

More democratic lawmakers, including federal representatives, are calling on New York’s governor to resign in the wake of the nursing home, sexual harassment and now the growing Tappan Zee Bridge scandals. In a joint statement Friday afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said because of the serious allegations of abuse and misconduct, Governor Andrew Cuomo should resign. Rockland Congressman Mondaire Jones has added his name to that list, along with more than two dozen other New York representatives. In a statement, Jones called Cuomo “unfit to continue leading our state.” Jones also wants a Department of Transportation investigation into the alleged coverup of bolts that reportedly broke during the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. In a press conference late Friday, a defiant Cuomo said politicians forming opinions without knowing the facts are reckless and dangerous.…

The state Assembly has launched an impeachment investigation, and Attorney General Letitia James has already begun her independent investigation into the various sexual harassment and related allegations.
