A house fire in Clarkstown last night temporarily shut down Route 9W in Valley Cottage near the south entrance of Rockland Lake State Park. No word on any injuries in the blaze.

Piermont Church to Host Clothing Donation Program Saturday
If you have any gently used professional clothing or other items for women in need you might want to bring them to the Piermont Reformed Church tomorrow. A group called “Wonder Girls,” an after-school program for high school girls, is hosting the group’s monthly Volunteer Day to benefit the Career Closet of the Women’s Rights and Information Center. Just bring the items to the Piermont Reformed Church on Ferdon Avenue in Piermont, tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon. Deadline to Apply for O&R’s STEM Classroom Grants Program Draws Near
Orange and Rockland Utilities is giving out $50,000 in grants for innovative classroom projects that focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says O&R will make 50 Classroom Grants of up to $1,000 each available to educators at schools and youth group leaders on STEM projects that get the thumbs-up by a panel of educators and engineers…
