COVID Vaccine Eligibility in NY Expands to Those 60 and Older and Teachers

New Yorkers 60 and older and teachers are now able to get the COVID vaccine, starting at 8am today. New York governor Andrew Cuomo says the expanded eligibility comes as the supply of vaccine is on the rise…

Government employees, nonprofit workers, and essential building service workers will be eligible for the vaccine beginning March 17th.

And in just nine more days (March 19th), restaurants across the state, but not in the city, can open at 75% capacity, that is if the numbers don’t spike between now and then. The owner of Marcello’s Ristorante in Suffern, Marcello Russodivito, says that’s great, but it may not help all that much, because he still can’t move his tables any closer together…

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we lost one more to COVID, the total is 899. We’ve got 34 hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 1,745 active cases. Our total case count is 40,010, that’s 205 more than Tuesday.

Sixth Woman Accuses NY Governor of Inappropriate Behavior, Publisher Stops Printing Gov’s COVID Book

A sixth woman, a current staff member, is accusing Governor Andrew Cuomo of inappropriate behavior at the governor’s mansion while there on official business. The Albany Times Union reported the woman told associates Cuomo touched her inappropriately last year. Cuomo’s attorney said all allegations are being referred to the attorney general’s investigators.

And Vanity Fair is reporting Cuomo got a seven-figure advance for his “How-I-beat-COVID” book last fall. Crown Publishing has announced they’ve stopped promoting and printing new copies of the book, because of the nursing home scandal.

Ramapo PD Arrests Two in Sloatsburg on Drug, Weapon Charges

Two were arrested on drug and weapon charges after a traffic stop in Sloatsburg early this morning. Ramapo Police say they found marijuana and two illegal handguns in the car. The driver and passenger were arrested and charged with two counts of 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Marijuana. They were being held pending arraignment.

Bi-partisan Group of Area Lawmakers Blasts State for Threat to Close Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center

A bi-partisan group of local lawmakers stood with health care workers and mental health professionals yesterday to urge the state not to close the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg as an inpatient facility. State senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick said it’s outrageous to send area kids instead to the Bronx and eliminate local mental health jobs …

Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski said those who don’t live here don’t know what it’s like to drive to the Bronx…

And that was state North Rockland state senator James Skoufis. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther from Sullivan and Orange County chairs the mental health committee, was skeptical over the benefits of the center becoming privatized, should the state close it down…

And that was Public Employees Federation president Wayne Spence preceded by CSEA Southern Region President Anthony Adamo. Rockland Assemblyman Mike Lawler, whose district includes the Psychiatric Center, said the state is morally obligated to help those in need and those who can’t help themselves…

The facility serves children between the ages of 5 and 18.

Two Hudson Valley Locations to Get State Vaccination Sites…but Not Rockland

Two locations in the Hudson Valley are getting new state vaccination sites, but still none for Rockland. Stony Point and Orange County assemblyman Colin Schmitt says one of them will be at the SUNY Orange-Middletown Campus…

Rockland County Executive Ed Day isn’t happy we’ve been ignored yet again…

The other Hudson Valley location is the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz.
