Voters in the Nyack School District Friday approved the nearly $688-thousand purchase of a strip mall near the high school to be used for event parking. The purchased passed by a vote of 840 to 131. The Journal News says about $40,000 now comes off the tax rolls.
NYPD Officer Faces Disciplinary Charges in Fatal Shooting of Spring Valley Man
An NYPD police officer who was acquitted of killing a Spring Valley man in an alleged road-rage incident now faces departmental disciplinary charges. The Associated Press says 37 year-old Delrawn Small was killed when he was shot by off-duty Officer Wayne Isaacs in Brooklyn. Isaacs had testified that he shot Small in self-defense. A Brooklyn jury acquitted him in November 2017.
Ramapo Votes to Move Ahead with Environmental Study for Northeast Corridor, Town

NYSUT Calls for Suspension of Standardized Tests Due to Pandemic
Teachers are telling the New York State Education Department that, because of the pandemic, students shouldn’t have to take standardized tests at the end of the school year. New York State United Teachers are calling on the state to ask for a federal waiver on testing requirements for grades three through high school. NYSUT’s Jolene DiBrango says suspending standardized testing is a matter of educational equity…
DiBrango notes students successfully graduated from high school last year even though standardized tests, including Regents exams, had been waived.
Rockland Legislator Brings Care Packages to Troops in Washington D.C. on Inauguration Day
A Rockland legislator was in Washington D.C. Wednesday to distribute care packages to troops providing security on Inauguration Day. Legislator Aron Wieder of Ramapo told them his gratitude for members of the military is deeply personal…
Those troops, Wieder says, are members of the Keystone National Guard from Pennsylvania. The packages he delivered contained personal protective equipment, snacks, drinks and other items.
