From Ramapo Sup. Michael Specht: “Former Town of Ramapo Supervisor John F. McAlevey passed away today. Sup. McAlevey, a decorated WW II vet/pilot, served four terms from 1966 – 1973. He started the Town Housing Authority, expanded the Town Parks from 23 to 650 acres, and established the Town’s lateral sewers. Sup. McAlevey was also a former Mayor of Sloatsburg and served on the MTA Board. We mourn his loss and honor his long life of public service and achievements. Our condolences to his family and friends.”

Airmont’s Village Hall is undergoing a thorough cleaning after an employee tested positive for coronavirus. In an email Saturday afternoon the village said other village employees are going to be tested as well. Those that were exposed are quarantining and will not return to work until Monday, January 11th. The village board meeting scheduled for January 4th will proceed at 7pm as scheduled. The town of Ramapo yesterday scheduled a meeting and workshop to be held next month on the draft environmental impact statement that concerns development in the northeast part of town. Several area residents sent us emails and called us on “The Morning Show” yesterday, concerned something wasn’t on the up-and-up with the last-minute scheduling of yesterday’s early morning meeting at which the January meetings were set up…

The public can submit written comments on the draft scoping document by January 13th. The meeting and workshop will be held the evening of January 20th. We have a link to the document here.
