New City Family Decorates Home to Raise Funds for “Angel Flight”

A Christmas display spectacular in New City is raising money for a group that arranges free air transportation for children and adults who need life-saving medical care. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says for years the Cirlin Family have been supporting “Angel Flight” by going all-out decorating their home with lights and music…

Newest Boulders Pitcher: Raise the Short Porch Fence!

The New York Boulders’ newest pitcher is eager to get to the ballpark and get the season going. 24-year-old right-hander Chris Cepeda, who pitched for St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, says he’s familiar with and likes the Pomona stadium, but he’s not thrilled with the short porch in right field…

Cepeda logged 13 relief appearances for the Frontier League’s Evansville Otters in 2019. The Long Island native pitched three years for the STAC Spartans from 2017 to 2019 and compiled a 20-12 record with a 3.22 ERA.

Rockland Death Count Rises 11, First COVID Vaccine Administered on Long Island

It’s not a number we’re used to, but the death count in Rockland has climbed 11 since the last report yesterday for a total of 727 since the pandemic began, that’s 28 this month alone. This as the COVID vaccine from Pearl River-based Pfizer and BioNTech was first administered in New York Monday morning at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. At his daily press briefing yesterday, governor Andrew Cuomo said 75 to 85 percent of the population needs to get vaccinated for it to be effective…

Phase one of the vaccine distribution is going to high-risk hospital workers, nursing home residents and staff. Those will be followed by long-term and congregate care residents and staff, EMS and other health care workers. Phase two is other essential workers and members of the general population who are at the highest risk. Moderna’s vaccine is expected to be approved later this week.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we’ve got 84 in the hospital confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 2,193 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 24,183 reported cases, 503 more than Monday.

Rockland’s Congresswoman Expects Stimulus Bills to Pass Wednesday

A federal stimulus package unveiled late yesterday by a bipartisan group of lawmakers could be approved as soon as tomorrow. The two bills would provide just over 900 billion dollars and include new unemployment benefits, small business aid, and other programs. It also provides state and local aid, and a controversial liability protection for businesses. Rockland Congresswoman Nita Lowey spoke with “The Morning Show” yesterday and said she expects the bills to pass…

The bills come as Congress races to beat Friday’s deadline to complete another funding bill to avoid a government shutdown.
