A port-a-potty company that wore out its welcome in West Haverstraw has set up in Ramapo. But residents and officials there are looking to see if the portable toilets from John-To-Go can be flushed out of the old firehouse on North Main Street in Hillcrest, where they have reportedly been operating illegally for months. A caller to “The Morning Show,” Michelle, said she lives nearby and it’s a problem that needs to be fixed sooner rather than later…

Supervisor Michael Specht says the town’s inspectors keep issuing summonses, because the company doesn’t have the right permits, but there’s been little movement, so they’re all due to meet in court for a pre-trial conference next month…

The company had previously been located in West Haverstraw. Neighbors there complained for years, until the company’s lease ran out earlier this year. They did not return an email seeking comment.

The consultant that studied the potential dissolution of the village of South Nyack and absorption into the town of Orangetown is hosting a second Zoom Q&A meeting tonight. A petition this summer called for the elimination of the village, with taxes and the potential Nyack College sale the central concerns. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says she’s met with the consultant, and spoken to the village’s mayor, and while she’s staying neutral on the matter, she says she’s disappointed with the coarse comments she’s seen online…

The referendum vote will be held on December 17th from noon to 9pm at the Living Christ Church located at 151 South Broadway in South Nyack. The consultant’s report is posted on the village’s website. The Zoom presentation, which is also accessible by phone, is tonight at 7:30.

The UK has already begun giving out the Pfizer-BioNTECH COVID-19 vaccine, and the FDA could approve it here in the U.S. as soon as this week. CNBC says their vaccine advisory committee is meeting tomorrow to start reviewing the data. New York’s governor has expressed concern that people are hesitant to take it. Rockland state senator David Carlucci says he’s not in the priority group, but eventually he will get the vaccine…

Over 2,000 members of the Uniformed Firefighters Association in New York City, or about a quarter of the FDNY’s membership, were recently polled about the vaccine, and 55% said they wouldn’t take it yet. Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski says his wife works in a hospital and is likely to be among the early recipients of the vaccine, but he’ll get it once he can and it’s available…

The governor has acknowledged that getting 75-80 percent of the population vaccinated, which is expected to be enough to contain community spread, could be very hard to reach.

A local lawmaker was the only New York State official to attend yesterday’s Operation Warp Speed COVID-19 Vaccine Summit in Washington. North Rockland and Orange County Assemblyman Colin Schmitt says after speaking with Dr. Deborah Birx, the Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force, he is confident the infrastructure will be ready to bring the vaccine to New Yorkers…

The summit included governors, private-sector executives, drug distributors and others from companies that will be involved in distributing COVID-19 vaccines once the FDA gives approval. According to CBS News, executives from Pfizer and Moderna were not in attendance.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in the county, we lost four more Rocklanders to the virus, for a total of 714. We’ve got two in the hospital being examined, another 66 there have been confirmed with coronavirus, and a total of 1,960 active cases. The state says since the crisis began, we’ve had a total of 23,072 reported cases, 175 more than Tuesday.
