More needs to be done in the East Ramapo school district, though the signing of the monitors’ increased powers bill signed last week is a good start. That’s according to Rockland Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski who sponsored the bill in the Assembly, who says the new law levels the playing field between the district’s public and private school community, but more help is needed…
The bill gives the East Ramapo Central School District monitors the ability to override various actions by the Board of Education and gives them better access to district records. Earlier this year the method of voting for the board in East Ramapo was changed from an at-large system to one that is ward-based after legal action was filed by the local NAACP claiming the old system was unfair.
