Ten Students Win Full Tuition at NY State School After Winning Vaccination Lottery

New York’s COVID positivity rate is down to 0.64 percent. The governor yesterday also announced the first ten students between the ages of 12 and 17 to get the shot and win a full four-year scholarships to a state college or university. It’s the latest gimmick to lure more residents into getting vaccinated and Governor Andrew Cuomo says winners came from all over the state, including the Hudson Valley…

But not one from Rockland. At least not yet. There will be ten winners each week through June 30th.

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, no new deaths since our first COVID death in over two weeks, we’re still at 958. We’ve got seven hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 133 active cases. Our total case count is 46,864, that’s seven more than Wednesday. A total of 217,565 shots have been administered in Rockland.

Boulders Defeat TriCity with Walk-Off Hit in the Ninth

It was the New York Boulders against the Tri-City ValleyCats in Pomona, game two of their three-game series. The Boulders were down one in the seventh with runners on the corners and Tucker Nathans up at bat…

And that was Jacob Kronberg with the call last night…that sacrifice fly would tie the game at five, where it remained until the ninth with the Boulders winning it in walk-off fashion, Zach Kirtley delivering an RBI single to end the game, the final score 6-5. Details Scant in Fatal Shooting of Teen in Spring Valley Monday, Police Asking Community for Info

Few details are emerging after a fatal shooting in Spring Valley on Monday night. Spring Valley Police say an officer was on patrol on Crispus Attucks Road and heard multiple gunshots in the area. The officer found an 18-year-old male lying on Rose Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later. Four Busted in Stony Point on Weapon, Other Charges

Four men, including a 19 year-old, face weapons charges after being busted in Stony Point on Monday. Stony Point Police Lt. Edward Finn says the four were stopped for a traffic violation late Monday morning. Finn says drugs, a Glock handgun and a high-capacity magazine were found. The four were later arraigned virtually in Stony Point Justice Court and sent to the Rockland County Jail. One was booked without bail due to prior felony convictions. The others were jailed on $5,000 bail each. All are due back in court tomorrow.

COVID Numbers Good in NY, but More Need to be Vaccinated for Herd Immunity

Though the number of vaccinated New Yorkers is not where it should be for herd immunity just yet, an area lawmaker is glad we’re at a place where many have gotten their shots, giving rise to comfort in shedding many COVID restrictions. Rockland state senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick says while COVID has receded around the state, he hopes it stays that way…

India, Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam and South Africa have all seen upticks in COVID cases, and, according to the Associated Press, a slow roll-out of vaccines in Japan could trigger a global spread of different variants of the virus.
