A Nanuet man faces decades behind bars after being convicted of securities and wire fraud. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York says 51 year-old Ruless Pierre was convicted last week of setting up a Ponzi scheme to get more than $2 million from over 100 investors. The U.S. Attorney’s office says Pierre lost some of his investors’ money day-trading and spent some of it on personal expenses, including luxury vehicles. He faces 20 years in prison on each of the top three counts when he is sentenced in September.
NY Lifts Restaurant and Bar Curfew, Positivity Rate Drops to 0.67 Percent
The midnight curfew on indoor dining for bars and restaurants in New York has been lifted. The announcement comes as the statewide, seven-day average positivity rate dropped to 0.67 percent over the weekend, a new low. And more than 19 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given out in New York State thus far.
COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, no new deaths over the last two weeks, the total still 957. We’ve got six hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 190 active cases. Our total case count is 46,829, that’s eight more than Friday. A total of 214,698 shots have been administered in Rockland.
Challenges Mount for Seniors, Before and During COVID
Before COVID-19, seniors were experiencing increasing mental and behavioral health challenges. A new report from the United Health Foundation says between 2016 and 2019, there were increases in drug-related deaths, suicide and frequent mental stress among people 65 and older nationwide. Boulders Split Doubleheader with Jackals Monday, Face Tri-City Valley Cats Tuesday
The New York Boulders’ second home game of the season was rained out Friday. They lost their first road game Saturday in Montclair against the Jersey Jackals, 8-6. They were rained out again on Sunday but played a doubleheader yesterday. The Boulders won the first game 4-3, lost the second, 3-2. Rockland to Honor Military Heroes Throughout Weekend, List of Events and Bus Schedule
Rockland will be honoring its military heroes this weekend with various Memorial Day services around the county…
And that’s Howard Phillips, the supervisor of the town of Haverstraw, where there will be a ceremony on Monday at 11am at the World War One Monument at Mount Repose Cemetery hosted by American Legion Post 130. Haverstraw’s Bowline Point Park will also host one of four watchfires around the county Saturday night starting around 11:30pm. The other three are at Eugene Levy Memorial Park on Route 45 in Pomona, the top of Clausland Mountain in Orangeburg, and the east end of the Piermont Pier. If you’d like to retire a flag you can do so at any of the four locations.
Rocklanders will also likely be celebrating with backyard barbecues this year, and Sheriff Lou Falco says added patrols will be out and about watching for drunk driving…
To make travel easier around the state, road and bridge construction projects on New York highways have been suspended through 6am Tuesday.

Tappan: Raymond W. DeMeola VFW Memorial Post 1615 will host the Veterans Walkway of Hero’s Memorial Day Observance beginning at 10 a.m. Independence Avenue and Lester Drive.

Nyack: A ceremony honoring former Rockland County Veterans Service Agency Director and Veterans Advocate, Jerry Donnellan, will begin at 11 a.m. at the Nyack Post 210 American Legion. There will be a bronze plaque installation in his honor.
Blauvelt: At noon the Blauvelt Lions Club Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at Lions Park.
Haverstraw: A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the World War I Monument at Mount Repose Cemetery hosted by American Legion Post 130.
Hillburn: The annual parade and service begins at 9 a.m. The parade begins at the Suffern Central School District Administration, and go to the village’s World War 1 Monument at the corner of Lake Avenue and Fourth Street for a ceremony.
Palisades: ceremony at the flag pole War Monument in Triangle Square, located at the intersection of Closter Road and Route 9W. The event begins at 9 a.m.
Palisades Center: 10 a.m., the Friends of Mount Moor Cemetery will hold a ceremony at the Mount Moor Cemetery, at Palisades Center. The ceremony will pay tribute to PFC Henry William Cook Jr. and dedicate ten new gravestones.
Pearl River: The Pearl River American Legion John H. Secor Post 329 will host an annual parade. The parade steps off at 10:15 a.m. from Key Bank. A service by the Police Booth will begin at 10:45 a.m.
Piermont: The Piermont Engine Hose Co #1 parade begins at 10 a.m. stepping off in front of VFW Post 7452 of Piermont and continue to Kennedy Park. A ceremony will follow.
Sparkill: At 11:30 a.m., a parade will step off from the Sparkill Firehouse and ends at the Depot Square Town Park. A ceremony will follow at approximately 11:50 a.m.
Stony Point: A wreath laying memorial service will be held at Stony Point Town Hall beginning at 9 a.m. The event will also be live streamed to the town of Stony Point’s Facebook page, facebook.com/TownOfStonyPoint.
Suffern: Memorial Day Parade will step off at 11 a.m. Hosted by the Village of Suffern and the Fromm-Maxwell-DeBaun American Legion Post 859, the parade begins at the intersection of Orange and Lafayette Avenues, continues onto Lafayette Avenue and ends at the Soldiers Monument at Washington Avenue.
