An early-morning fire at a Spring Valley shopping center is now under control. The blaze at the shopping center at 175 Route 59 prompted dozens of emergency vehicles to respond to the scene. Smoke was coming from an entertainment center in the shopping center. The Bureau of Criminal Identification is on-scene and investigating. Officials say there was heavy smoke damage, but no reports of any injuries.
Report: Airmont Trustee Faces Lawsuit for Campaign Costs
An Airmont trustee faces a lawsuit from her campaign demanding she pay her share of the cost of her successful election. Migdalia Pesante reportedly owes 85-hundred dollars, after winning office earlier this year with Mayor Nathan Bubel and Deputy Mayor Brian Downey. The Journal News reports she’s voted differently than her running mates on several issues, and that has led some to speculate that’s the reason behind the lawsuit.

List of Rockland 9/11 Memorial Ceremonies
Today is the 18th anniversary of the terror attacks of 2001 on New York and Washington DC and many events are taking place here in the county. The Rockland County commemoration is being held today at the 9/11 Memorial starting at 8:30 at Haverstraw Bay County Park. RCC’s ceremony begins at 8:15 at the Technology Center Ellipse. In Spring Valley, a service will be held at 11 am at Memorial Park on Main Street featuring the East Ramapo Marching Band.
Services around the five towns get underway this evening. Clarkstown’s service is at town hall from 5 to 6pm, Haverstraw and the Rockland County Marine Corps League hold their ceremony at 6pm at Haverstraw Town Hall. Orangetown’s memorial ceremony is also at 6pm on the Monument Lawn at Orangetown Town Hall (weather permitting, otherwise inside town hall). Ramapo’s service begins at 7pm in the Town Council Room at Ramapo Town Hall. In Suffern, a ceremony will be held at 7pm at Village Hall. In Sloatsburg a memorial service will be held at 8pm at the community fields on Route 17. Stony Point’s candlelight memorial service begins at 7pm at Stony Point Town Hall.
