A 73-year old New Hempstead woman was killed after being struck by a bus yesterday in a New City parking lot. Police say the incident took place at 484 New Hempstead Road in New City. The woman was leaving a program she was attending at the New Hempstead Presbyterian Church. The incident is under investigation and there was no further information.

22 people were killed at the Walmart in El Paso while nine died in the Dayton shooting, the shooter there was killed by police. The Sheriff’s Office meanwhile is warning of a phone scam making the rounds claiming to be from them. The caller claims to to be Sergeant Mike Mondelli, and asks people to call him back, leaving the number 845-205-3772. The Sheriff’s office says there is no one at the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office with that name and it’s a scam.
Ramapo Police Officer Adopts Hi-Tor Rescue Puppy Named for New City Crash Victim
A fundraiser was held last night at the Dog House in Nanuet for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter. A Ramapo police officer adopted a rescue dog that was named in honor of Jayde Marks, the 21 year-old New City woman who was killed last month, allegedly by a drunk driver who was also a friend of hers. Pete Martinez is the president of a Jeep club called Xtreme4Low, a community group that raises funds for various organizations…
Marks was driving on Germonds Road in Clarkstown when 22 year-old Michael Mercado of West Haverstraw allegedly went through a red light at the intersection of 304, crashing into Marks’ car, killing her. Mercado is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, DWI and other charges.
