A North Rockland attorney is looking for a public vote on the future of the town golf course and Letchworth property but there’s a push to prevent the vote from happening. Some three thousand people showed up last Saturday to take the police exam so they could be considered for jobs in the sheriff’s department or other local police agencies. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says they normally get two thousand people for the test, and he’s glad there are plenty still eager to join the team…

Police officials and departments have been under greater scrutiny following some high-profile cases including the George Floyd murder in Minnesota and other incidents around the country. Police have also been victims in several high-profile cases, including the January 6th attack in Washington D.C., a Capitol police officer was killed when he was struck by a car at a security barricade last month, and just yesterday a Dobbs Ferry police sergeant was slashed in the face with a knife in what is being called an unprovoked attack. He was treated and released from an area hospital.

A North Carolina man has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter charges in the shooting death of a West Haverstraw man in Nyack a year ago. Rockland’s D. A. says 34 year-old Jason Jabouin, fatally shot Ryan Franklin. Jabouin fled but was picked up in Maryland the following day. He’ll get 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in September.

British authorities are reportedly trying to have a Pearl River man extradited, accusing him of breaking a British cop’s nose more than four decades ago. The New York Post says 62 year-old Rory McGrath, a native of Ireland, was arrested earlier this month and was released on bail. McGrath had been accused of assaulting the cop in a street brawl in Leeds in 1980, but he left before the trial could get underway. McGrath faces five years in prison in the UK if convicted.
