Gun charges against two New Jersey men have been dropped. Dominic Borghetti of Hackensack and Nicolas Cianciaruso of Mahwah were nabbed target shooting in Hillburn last year, but the charges were dismissed Monday. The Journal News said a third New Jersey man from West New York still faces gun possession charges. The weapons and ammunition police found the men with was ruled inadmissible as evidence.
Mount Vernon City Council Votes to Remove Mayor After Guilty Plea
Mount Vernon’s City Council unanimously voted to remove Mayor Richard Thomas after he pleaded guilty in his corruption case earlier this week. News 12 says City Council President Andre Wallace was sworn in as interim mayor. Thomas called the move an “illegal coup d’etat” and said he’d report to work today. In his plea with the state attorney general, he was given until the end of September to step down.

Measles Cases Inch Up Slightly; Rockland Schedules Free MMR Availability for July
The measles hasn’t taken a vacation, as the number of confirmed cases in Rockland has risen slightly. As of July 8th, there have been 278 confirmed cases of measles in the county since the outbreak began in October last year. Free MMR vaccines are available at the Rockland County Department of Health, Building A in Pomona throughout July (complete list is below). No appointments are necessary. NY’s U.S. Senator Calls for Equal Pay for Women; World Cup Champs Parade in NYC
After a parade through the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan later this morning and then a visit to the Senate in Washington, the World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s soccer team is looking to advance in yet another way – in equal pay to their male counterparts. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer says they work just as hard to prepare in their sport as the men do, and they’ve won back-to-back championships, so they deserve to be on equal footing financially as well…
A Virginia senator yesterday introduced a bill that would prevent the federal government from funding the 2026 FIFA World Cup until the U-S Soccer Federation agrees to equal pay for its men’s and women’s national teams. Today’s parade starts at 9:30 and works its way north from Battery Park along Broadway to City Hall.
