Several drug suppliers in Rockland and Orange Counties pleaded guilty earlier this week to felony charges. Among them, 35 year-old Marquis Gamble of Nyack. The group that pleaded guilty in Orange County court included firefighters, a former police officer, and members of so-called “outlaw motorcycle clubs.” Operation “Bread, White, and Blues” busted the drug rings in February. As the admitted supplier of cocaine to the group’s other members for distribution, Gamble faces 10-15 years in prison. He will be sentenced in October.
Reports: Pills, Guns Found at Alleged Illegal Day Care Center in Spring Valley
Pills and two loaded guns were found at a Spring Valley home reportedly operating as an illegal day care center. Published reports said six children were at the Lake Street home when police found oxycodone pills and weapons. 25-year-old Quran Dent-Chapman was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
Rain Shuts Down Construction at Legoland Site in Orange County
The town of Goshen has shut down the Legoland construction site, due to drainage and water runoff issues that have been polluting local waterways. The Times Herald-Record reports construction crews at the site by exit 125 off Route 17 have been struggling with heavy rains pounding the area. Legoland has voluntarily stopped construction at times during periods of heavy rain. The site will reportedly remain closed until the issues are fixed.
NYS Legislature Passes the “Climate Leadership and Community Protection”
The New York State Legislature Wednesday night passed the “Climate Leadership and Community Protection” act, which calls for an aggressive push towards clean energy usage, including solar and offshore wind power. Stony Point and Orange County Assemblyman Colin Schmitt voted against the measure, and says though he is for protecting the environment and combating climate change, the new bill creates a decision-making authority called a “climate council” that he says won’t be accountable to the public…
Rockland State Senator David Carlucci voted for it, and calls climate change the most important issue of our time…
And just like a bunch of other bills recently passed by the legislature in the waning hours of this year’s session, it still needs the governor’s signature to become law.
Position of President Eliminated at Albertus Magnus H. S.
The president’s position at Albertus Magnus High School has been eliminated. The Journal News reported Robert Gomprecht, has been at the school for three years. It’s not clear if other positions at the Bardonia school will be impacted.
