The county’s largest union has ratified a tentative contract with the county. The agreement with the Civil Service Employees Association covers August 2016 through the end of December 2021. The county executive says he’ll sign the agreement, which also requires the approval of the Rockland County Legislature. The nearly 13-hundred members of the CSEA will get an $800 lump sum payment for 2017, 1,500 for 2018, a 2% salary increase for 2019 and 3% for 2020 and 2021. There will also be changes in vacation rules for new hires and an expansion of the drug and alcohol policy. The cost of this contract through the end of 2019 is approximately $4 million.
Two Pedestrians Injured in New Square Hit-and-Run
Route 45 near Washington Avenue in New Square was closed for several hours early yesterday morning after two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle that did not stop and fled scene. Ramapo Police say the incident occurred around 4:30 Tuesday morning. One victim was taken to Nyack hospital and the other Westchester Medical Center. No word on their conditions. Police are asking anyone who saw the incident or who may have information about it to call them at 845-357-2400.
Spring Valley Mayor Caught on Video Berating NYS DOT Crew
Spring Valley’s Mayor was caught on video cursing and yelling at a State Department of Transportation road crew over the weekend as they were doing repairs near Route 45 and Funston Avenue. The video was obtained by and posted on the blog “Rockland Star.” Mayor Alan Simon can be seen and heard ordering the crew to stop working and leave, and complaining that he hadn’t been notified the work needed to be done…
A state DOT spokesman told the Journal News they reached out to the village and police department about their plans for the project last week. We reached out to Mayor Simon for comment but did not hear back.
Clarkstown Marks 75th Anniversary of D-Day

The service gets underway at 11:30 tomorrow morning at Street School Community Center in New City. It is open to everyone. The D-Day invasion of the Nazi-occupied French beaches of Normandy on June 6th 1944, was the largest by air, land and sea in history, involving more than 150,000 soldiers from the U.S., Britain and Canada.
Rockland Emergency Services Prep for Large Summer Crowds
Rockland emergency services have been meeting and preparing for large crowds at Rockland Lake State Park this summer, particularly on the popular July 4th and Labor Day weekends.
