Four Area Dress Barn Stores Face Closing as Parent Company Announces End of Clothing Chain

The parent company of Dress Barn announced yesterday it’s closing all 660
of its retail outlets to focus on its more profitable brands. Dress Barn
was once headquartered in Suffern, moved to Mahwah in 2013, and has
locations in Nanuet, Ramsey, Tarrytown and Scarsdale. WRCR’s Market
Analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management says the move to shut all their stores bucks the typical retail trend…

Total Retail Report says an exact timeline for the winding-down process

UPDATE: Annual 5K Fun Run and Walk to Benefit The Larisa Karassik Foundation Thursday at Rockland Lake

Unfortunately due to the weather forecast, tonight’s fun run is being postponed. The fun run will be rescheduled for May 28th, same place and time.

Tomorrow night it’s the Annual 5K Fun Run and Walk to benefit The Larisa
Karassik Foundation. Larisa was killed by a drunk driver four years ago
and state senator David Carlucci says the walk around Rockland Lake is
designed to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving…

To register for the event visit https://larisastrong.org. Participants
will be gathering at the Rockland Lake North Parking Lot at 6 and the walk
starts at 6:30.

Suffern’s Grace VanderWaal Honored as “Woman of Distinction” by NYS

A Rockland teen was among dozens of women recognized earlier this month in Albany as a “Woman of Distinction” in a bill by the State Senate.
Suffern’s Grace VanderWaal won America’s Got Talent in 2016 when she was 12. VanderWaal works with the East Ramapo School District and created the Little Miracles Show Choir, which encourages young students to learn how to play instruments, dance and sing. VanderWaal also provides two college scholarships annually to students in the district. Senator Betty Little was one of the bill’s co-sponsors…

VanderWaal hopes to expand the “Little Miracles” program to other school
districts around the country.

Sloatsburg Man Killed After Collision with Car While Riding Lawnmower on Route 17 Identified

Ramapo Police say one of two Sloatsburg brothers who were riding a
lawnmower on Route 17 Sunday night has died of his injuries following a
collision with a car. The accident took place near the intersection of
Washington Avenue. 29 year-old Richard Mackey died yesterday morning. His brother 30 year-old Raymond Mackey, who was believed to be operating the lawnmower at the time, reportedly remains in critical condition. Ramapo Police say they attempted to cross Route 17 and were struck by a 2006 Honda travelling southbound. The driver remained on scene and was
cooperating with police. The Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Unit and
the Detective Bureau are investigating the incident. No charges have been
filed.

Rockland Asks for Fed Assistance in Combating Measles in U.S.

Rockland’s County Executive is asking the feds to step in and help keep
the measles from becoming more of a problem than it’s become. Ed Day says he has written to the president and federal officials asking for an
executive order or new laws aimed at requiring foreign visitors to the
U.S. to prove they have been immunized before being allowed to enter the
country…

The request comes as the number of confirmed cases has jumped to 233 since the outbreak began last October, and Day believes many more cases have gone unreported. In a typical year the county has given out 1,000 free MMR shots. Since the outbreak began, they’ve given out almost 21,000.
