The Office for the Aging is in Building B on Sanatorium Road in Pomona. It’s this Wednesday morning, May 19th, from 10 to 11:30. You must call and speak with a staff member to register. The number is 845-364-2110.

Rockland’s North Rockland towns are split on whether to allow sales of marijuana in their towns now that it’s been legalized in New York State. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says he and the town board will likely opt out…

But over in Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips says they’ll likely opt in, partially because the villages also have their own say as to what they might do…

Since it is legal to smoke pot in public in New York, people would be able to buy marijuana in neighboring towns and then smoke it in public wherever smoking is allowed. The towns that allow sales would be the ones that benefit financially. Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny told “The Morning Show” Wednesday her town will likely opt out, leaving them the option to opt in at a later date.

The Rockland County Department of Health says first-dose appointments are available for the Pfizer COVID vaccine for anyone 12 and older starting Wednesday May 19th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visit Rockland’s COVID-19 webpage to schedule an appointment, that’s encouraged but not necessary. Walk-ins are also welcome. You can also call the Rockland County COVID Call Center at 845-238-1956 weekdays during regular business hours to make an appointment.

If you can’t wait until Wednesday, a Rockland pharmacy has already started taking appointments for 12 year-olds and they have lots of them left. New City Pharmacy owner Amgad Amir says they got a batch of the Pfizer vaccine from the state on Tuesday. And now with the FDA giving the green light for to use it for those as young as 12, Amir says he started to reach out to the community right away…

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, the death count is unchanged since Monday at 955. We’ve got 10 hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 303 active cases. Our total case count is 46,607, that’s 21 more than Thursday.

A resolution was reportedly presented at a recent Rockland County legislature meeting, and then pulled, that would have increased capital spending so that the Sain Building in New City could be demolished. That’s according to Minority Leader Lon Hofstein, who said legislature chairman Alden Wolfe put the resolution forward without specific dollar figures, or ideas about the future use for the property. Hofstein told “The Morning Show” yesterday, the timing of the proposed resolution could not have been worse…

We reached out to Legislature Chairman Alden Wolfe for details, but he did not return our request for comment. The Sain Building has been sitting idle since December 2017. A developer had offered to pay $4.5 million for the property and was going to take care of demolishing the building, but bailed in November 2018. Hofstein said the issue may come up again at the next legislature meeting.
