Rocklanders head to the polls today for school board elections and budget
votes. In East Ramapo they’re hoping to avoid a second consecutive
contingency budget with its $241 million budget proposal that’s made cuts
to some bus routes. In the North Rockland school district, they’re still
trying to pay off the Mirant debt. While relief was not included in the
state budget this year, area officials are hoping to get it done in the
current legislative session.
Bronx Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges in West Haverstraw Incident
A Bronx man faces attempted murder charges after reportedly stabbing a
woman in West Haverstraw yesterday. LoHud.com reports 23 year-old Anthony Russell fled the scene of the incident but was picked up and taken to the Rockland County jail. The 24 year-old woman was found near a parking lot off South Route 9W and taken to Montifiore Nyack Hospital with multiple stab wounds.
No one Seriously Injured in School Bus-Car Accident in Ramapo
No one was seriously hurt after an accident involving a car and a school
bus yesterday in Ramapo. There were no children on the bus when it was
apparently struck by the car on Route 306.
Police Investigating after Two Girls Nearly Drown in Spring Valley Pool
Police are investigating how a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old nearly drowned
yesterday in a pool at Sydell Lane in Spring Valley. News 12 reports the
girls were rushed to Westchester Medical Center after being found
semi-conscious by a family member. Spring Hill EMS and Rockland Paramedics responded to the scene. Police say they expect both girls will survive.
Cyclist Hit by Deer During Gran Fondo
A cyclist in Sunday’s Gran Fondo race was injured after she was reportedly
hit by a deer in Tompkins Cove. The 48 year-old was taken to Westchester
Medical Center after she regained consciousness. The deer reportedly
wandered back into the woods.
