Academy of Rockland didn’t show up for yesterday’s closing. The church is
now back on the market, for an asking price of $4.9 million.
Sloop Clearwater Marks 50th Anniversary
Today is the 50th anniversary of the Sloop Clearwater, the ship created by
Nyack folksinger and activist Pete Seeger to bring attention to Hudson
River pollution and other environmental issues. Greg Williams is the
HRSC’s executive director, and says in the last decade, more than 1/2 a
million students have come aboard to learn about the river…
The Clearwater will be rechristened today at the Ferry Dock up in Beacon.

Events in Orangetown, Haverstraw this Weekend
The Orangetown Highway Department is hosting its 23rd Annual Open House tomorrow from 10 to noon. You can tour the facility on Route 303 in Orangeburg, watch equipment demos and more. The first 50 kids get a free t-shirt. And the Gran Fondo bike race from the George Washington Bridge to Bear Mountain and back, perhaps best remembered for taking over the Palisades Parkway a few years ago, hits the county on Sunday, and it’ll cut right through Orangetown, says supervisor Chris Day…
The racecourse will touch parts of Clarkstown, Ramapo and North Rockland as well, so be on the lookout for the cyclists…and check out gfny.com to see what roads are impacted. Family Fun Day Sunday in Warwick to Raise Awareness of Furniture Safety Issues
Sunday is the second annual Family Fun Day and Tricky Tray event to benefit Harper Smiles, named for a three year-old girl who was killed when furniture she was climbing on fell on her. Harper’s grandfather, Sandy Fried formerly of the Spring Valley Tire Warehouse, says the event helps raise funds and awareness of furniture and safety issues…
