An Israeli traveler with the measles may have sickened others at Newark Airport. Officials say the infected passenger was at Terminal C on April 16th. Anyone there between 4 and 8 in the morning could have been exposed, and symptoms could develop as late as May 7th. Meanwhile the official measles count here in Rockland has grown to 212.
Cause of Valley Cottage Condo Fire Still Undetermined
The cause of the fire at the Mountain View condos in Valley Cottage that displaced 30 people last month is still undetermined. Clarkstown Police Captain Jeff Wanamaker said as much at a press conference last week, about a week after the fire had occurred…
Though Clarkstown Police Department Fire Investigators have completed their investigation, the case will not be closed. Investigators have video footage and statements from eyewitnesses, but they’re hoping to get additional evidence. The department is also continuing to assist the families who were displaced due to the fire.
Suffern Residents to See Property Taxes Climb
Suffern residents will see their property taxes go up $234 on average after the village passed its $14.2 million budget set to take effect June first. The Journal News reports the board voted 3-2 to break the state-mandated 2 percent property tax cap. To meet the cap they would have had to cut about $1.2 million from the mayor’s proposed budget.
Orangetown Looks to Make Cycling Safer on Area Roads
Cyclists are out now in full force on area roads and the town of Orangetown is hoping to make it safer for everyone to share and enjoy them. Supervisor Chris Day says state law doesn’t prevent cyclists from riding in packs or side-by-side, but the town doesn’t have that specific law either, so he’d like to establish a local law and encourage them to ride single file, for safety’s sake…
Rockland Bicycling Club board member, Rita Joachim, is hopeful this could work, but says motorists have their responsibilities too…
