15 families in Valley Cottage have lost their homes after a fire ripped through a condo complex on Sierra Vista Lane Sunday. Lohud.com says 5 were hurt, including a firefighter, one of the injured was in serious condition at Westchester Medical Center. The cause is under investigation.
Rockland Measles Cases Climb to 184; Westchester has 8 and 17 in Orange
There are now 184 confirmed cases of measles in Rockland County and the number continues to climb. County Executive Ed Day told “The Morning Show” Friday he was glad there haven’t been any deaths due to the measles in the county, but there have been close calls…
A judge struck down the state of emergency the county declared late last month, and Day has fears that with the holidays coming, things could get worse…
Another judge Friday upheld the order that shot down the state of emergency, but the Journal News says a four-judge panel will consider the matter later this month. There are also now eight cases in Westchester and Orange County has 17, but the outbreak hasn’t been limited to our area. They’ve been reported in 19 states including Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Texas. Overseas, NBC News reported more than 1,200 people have died in Madagascar where there have been more than 115,000 cases.

Today is tax day, and most area post offices have late hours in case you need that or haven’t e-filed already. According to the IRS, and a video posted on their website last week, if you owe taxes but can’t pay, you should file a tax return on time to avoid the “failure to file penalty”…

Former New City Jewish Center Rabbi Dies
A Rabbi who headed the New City Jewish Center for nearly five decades has died. Rabbi Henry Adler Sosland died Friday after a long illness. Rabbi Sosland started at the New City Jewish Center in 1958 and was there until he retired in 2005. [His funeral is being held today at 11 AM at the New City Jewish Center]. He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters, and two grandchildren.
Airmont Reportedly Looks to Abolish Full-Time Fire Inspector Position
The village of Airmont’s new board is reportedly looking to abolish the position of Fire Inspector and contract the service from the Town of Ramapo instead. That’s according to its agenda for tonight’s village board meeting. We reached out to the village of Airmont for comment but did not hear back.
