No one was reported hurt after a school bus caught fire in Airmont yesterday afternoon. Saddle River Road was reportedly shut briefly after the bus collided with a car.
Killer of Pearl River Teen Comes up for Parole in June
Supporters of the Pearl River teen murdered and sexually assaulted more than 40 years ago are hoping to keep one of her killers behind bars. Robert McCain was convicted of killing 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky as she walked home from the library. He comes up for parole next month. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says he belongs in prison…
McCain’s co-defendant Richard LaBarbera got out on parole two years ago. He was quickly sent back to prison for violating parole, but released again last year. You can go online and sign the “Petition for Paula” to show support for keeping McCain behind bars.
Report: Spring Valley Trustee Calls for Mayor to Resign
A dispute over where a Spring Valley Trustee should sit during a village meeting has sparked a call for the mayor to resign. That’s according to News 12, which says Trustee Eudson Tyson Francois, who is running for mayor, tried to sit next to current mayor Alan Simon during yesterday morning’s meeting. Mayor Simon reportedly cursed at Francois, and demanded he change seats or leave the meeting. Francois told News 12 he switched seats and eventually left the meeting because he felt harassed, and is calling on Simon to step down for his continued pattern of inappropriate behavior. We could not reach Simon for comment.
NY Governor Backs Holiday of Columbus Day as NYC Combines it with “Indigenous Peoples’ Day”
They don’t see eye to eye on everything, and now a holiday has two of the state’s highest-ranking Democrats going at it. Governor Andrew Cuomo Wednesday said Columbus Day should remain on the calendar, taking New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to task for replacing it with “Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day” instead…
The New York Post said de Blasio claimed that neither he nor the Schools Chancellor knew about plans to change the holiday, though he did call the move “right and appropriate.”

Rocklanders with lots of paper to shred might want to go to Haverstraw Town Hall tomorrow from 8 to noon. Supervisor Howard Phillips says Shredding Day is open to all county residents, and they’re collecting non-perishable food items…
