In the wake of the deadly terror attacks at two mosques in New Zealand over the weekend, Rocklanders are encouraged to come out tomorrow for an Interfaith Symposium at Rockland Community College. 50 people were killed and dozens wounded in the shootings. The County Executive and the Commissioner of Human Rights will host the event and discuss culture and values. The “Interfaith Symposium” is being held tomorrow from 8:45 – 12:30 at the RCC “Ellipse” at the college’s Technology Center.

The town of Clarkstown is weighing whether to appeal a judge’s decision to nullify the council’s vote two years ago to fire the suspended police chief. A judge recently decided a council member and the supervisor should have recused themselves from the vote and ordered a re-vote on the status of former police chief Michael Sullivan. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann says regardless, Sullivan already retired…

The judge did not throw out the disciplinary charges and he denied Sullivan’s request the town pay his legal fees. Hoehman says he will abstain, but the current town board could vote again in the next few weeks. Neither Sullivan nor his attorney could be reached for comment.

Some of the smaller playgrounds in Orangetown are getting a bit of a facelift. Using bonds approved last year, Supervisor Chris Day says the town will be putting in rubberized surfaces instead of woodchips so more people can use the facilities…  

Day says the rubberized surfaces will also be more cost-effective in the long run.
