Two men from Rockland were among the 45 people killed in a stampede in Israel last week. 18 year-old Yosef Amram Tauber of Monsey and 33 year-old Shragi Gestetner of Airmont were among the tens of thousands of festival revelers on Friday in Mount Meron celebrating Lag BaOmer. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Sunday a national day of mourning.
Vote on Stony Point Golf Course Sale Could be on the Ballot this November
A vote on the sale of the Patriot Hills Golf Course in Stony Point appears to have new life. A state Supreme Court justice late last week dismissed a challenge to a petition seeking a permissive referendum on the sale of the golf course and the adjoining property. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan last week, before the judge’s decision was announced, indicated the developer wants to move quickly to make improvements after signing a contract with the town late last month…
Attorney Mike Diederich represents the petitioners and said he’s concerned a private developer could eliminate the golf course…
Diederich would like to see the town board to put the sale on the ballot in November.
Ramapo Sup: Victory Over Novartis Property Owners a “Major Triumph” for Taxpayers
It was a major triumph for Ramapo, Suffern and Suffern Central School District taxpayers. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says the attempt by the owners of the 167-acre Novartis facility on Old Mill Road in Suffern to reduce their tax assessment from $41 million to $6 million was totally without merit. Specht says it’s not clear what the future holds for the property at this time…
At the same time the company was trying to lower their assessment, they were reportedly trying to sell the property at an inflated price.
Portable Restroom Company Pays $15G Fine for Operating Illegally in Hillcrest
That portable restroom company that once occupied the former Hillcrest firehouse property has paid a $15,000 fine for operating there illegally. That’s according to the Journal News. John To Go had set up shop in Ramapo a year ago after being booted from a West Haverstraw industrial park. Neighbors in both locations had complained about foul orders.
Reward Offered for Information on Suffern Fires
A $5,000 reward is being offered by the Suffern Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for a series of fires that have sparked in Suffern since last November.
