A new supermarket coming to Tappan has been delayed but could still open this year. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says Lidl is expected to completely re-do the building that once held the Bon Fahyr Buffet in the Tappan Plaza shopping center on Route 303 just south of Oak Tree Road…
Lidl is a Germany-based discount supermarket chain, similar to Aldi, which already has Rockland locations in Nanuet and Stony Point.

Services are being held this week for former Ramapo Police Lieutenant William Starkey of Airmont who died on Thursday. Starkey served with the Ramapo Police for 39 years and is credited with developing the department’s Firearms Training Unit. The Spring Valley High School graduate also served in the U.S. Army and won several gold medals competing at the New York State Police Olympics. Visitation is tomorrow from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern. Funeral Services are at 11am on Thursday at The Brick Church in New Hempstead. A private cremation service will follow. He was 82 years old.

It’s been less than two weeks since the state-run COVID vaccination facility opened at RCC and it’s proven popular with Rocklanders. It’s also seen out-of-towners who find it more convenient. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says folks from the city have used it instead of the several closer to their own homes…
If you’re having an issue getting your second COVID shot, don’t worry too much about it…if it’s delayed it’s not that big a deal. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says don’t get concerned, just work with the pharmacy where you got the first shot to re-schedule your second one…

COVID-19 by the numbers now, here in Rockland, we lost one more to COVID, our first since Wednesday, the total is 931. We’ve got 48 hospitalized confirmed with coronavirus, and 1,653 active cases. Our total case count is 44,823, that’s 181 more than Friday.

A Rockland County corrections officer has pleaded guilty to official misconduct and promoting prison contraband. Rockland’s D-A Tom Walsh says 39 year-old Christopher Taggart of New City was sentenced by Judge David Zuckerman to two years of probation. He has also resigned as a corrections officer from the sheriff’s office. He was originally charged last July on two counts of promoting prison contraband, and several counts of official misconduct.

The Orange County man accused in the Chanukah machete attack in Ramapo reportedly is still not competent to stand trial. The Journal News says Grafton Thomas will continue to be evaluated at a mental health facility. The next report is expected to be submitted to Federal Court before May 24th. Thomas faces two cases, 10 charges in federal court and another 15 counts in state court. Several were injured and 72 year-old Josef Neumann died from head and body wounds in the December 2019 attack. Thomas has pleaded not guilty in both cases.
