Rockland’s Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education is hosting two special virtual observances to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day tonight and tomorrow. Tonight’s Zoom webinar features a presentation on “Women in the Holocaust” by Sarah Cushman, the Director of the Holocaust Education Foundation of Northwestern University. Tomorrow’s Zoom webinar, which begins at 12:30, will focus on “The Importance of the Justice System in our Democracy” and “Why We Must Never Forget.” The keynote speaker is Thane Rosenbaum, a law professor and Middle East analyst. Spring Fun Begins with Bingo and a Movie in Stony Point Friday Night

Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg Survives Budget Cuts, Gov. Announces Agreement on 2022 Fiscal Plan
The Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center isn’t going anywhere. After months of rallying to keep the facility in Orangeburg, Rockland State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick told “The Morning Show” yesterday, it won’t be closed to help trim the state budget, saving 130 local union jobs…
The move to keep the center open in Rockland had bi-partisan support. Instead of moving patients to the Bronx, the center will stay open, ensuring that hundreds of Hudson Valley families can continue to receive inpatient mental health services for their children locally.
Meanwhile the governor announced late yesterday the budget has been finalized. The 212 billion dollar spending plan includes police reform, expanded childcare, mobile sports wagering, public and private green investment projects, a temporary increase in taxes on those earning over 1.1 million dollars, and a 1 billion dollar small business, arts, entertainment and restaurant relief package for businesses and other organizations recovering from the pandemic. It also repeals the protections granted in last year’s budget to health care facilities, nursing homes and health care professionals in the early weeks of the pandemic.
Orangetown Works to Incorporate South Nyack Police into Town Department
After South Nyack residents voted to dissolve the village late last year, the town of Orangetown is trying to figure out how to incorporate the South Nyack – Grandview police force into the town’s police department. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny told “The Morning Show” last month that the Piermont Police department would be taking over responsibility for Grand View starting June first…
And that would leave South Nyack to run its police force from June through the end of the year. South Nyack residents voted in December by nearly a 2-to-1 margin to dissolve the village that was incorporated back in 1878.
