A community gun buyback event is coming to Spring Valley on Thursday. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says it’s a joint effort between his office, the Spring Valley Police and Ramapo Police Departments, and the New York State Police, to keep weapons from falling into the wrong hands.

Guns can be turned in anonymously, no ID required, no questions asked. You’ll get a pre-paid gift card when you turn the guns in, prices range from $25 for antique guns to $250 for assault rifles. The event is being held Thursday from 3-7pm at St. Joseph’s Church on Main Street in Spring Valley.

The MTA has listed the categories of those who would be exempt from the congestion pricing plan that is set to take effect later this month. Among the categories, low-income residents, disabled residents who cannot take public transportation, qualifying authorized emergency vehicles, school buses contracted with the New York City Department of Education, and others. Rockland State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th District told “The Morning Show” last week he’s still hopeful any of the legal cases against the plan could stop it from being implemented, or, at least, delayed…

Under the congestion pricing plan, cars will be hit with a $15 toll when they drive below 60th Street into the so-called Congestion Relief Zone during peak hours. Officials expect 100,000 fewer vehicles to enter the zone every day, creating less traffic and cleaner air.

The Rockland County Department of Health is warning against the potential spread of mosquitos. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says getting a handle on the mosquito population can help prevent the spread of diseases such as West Nile Virus…

A Nanuet man was arrested over the weekend and accused of committing a lewd act in the women’s restroom at Rye Town Park. The City of Rye Police say the 51 year-old was allegedly inside the restroom with his pants down exposing himself when a woman entered and saw him. He was arrested and charged with Public Lewdness. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Rye City Court later this month.

Dominican University Names New President

Dominican University in Orangeburg has named Dr. Manuel Martínez, as the new president of the University. He’ll officially take the position July 15th. Martínez replaces Sister Mary Eileen O’Brien, who retired earlier this year after serving as president for 35 years. Martínez will be the first layperson to lead the University in its 72-year history. All previous presidents were members of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt. Martínez served most recently as Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Faculty at Mercy College of Ohio, a Catholic College that specializes in healthcare professions.
