A funeral service is being held today for a former Suffern Police officer who passed away on Saturday. The Suffern Police Department said Robert “Bobby” Schultz served for more than 30 years. He also served 56 years as a volunteer firefighter in Columbian Engine Company #1, including time as Chief. The funeral service is today at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern. Schultz was 73 years old.
Rockland Law Enforcement Getting $1.8 Million from State Grant
Rockland law enforcement agencies are getting $1.8 million in Law Enforcement Technology Grants from the new state budget. Rockland State Senator Bill Weber of the 38th District says the money will be split among the Sheriff’s department, and police departments in Orangetown, Clarkstown, Haverstraw, Ramapo, Suffern, Piermont, and Spring Valley…
Weber is also slamming a rally held yesterday at the state capitol in support of a bill that would strip New York charities of their tax-deductible status if they fund groups that engage in violations of the Geneva convention, specifically those that support Israel. Weber says stronger antisemitism legislation is needed to combat yesterday’s “Not on Our Dime” rally and bill proposal.
Rockland’s Congressman: Middle East War Will End When Hamas Surrenders
Israel’s national security adviser says he expects military operations in Gaza to continue through at least another seven months. That’s according to the New York Times, which reported yesterday that the current military offensive against Hamas in Rafah will not likely bring an end to the war. Rockland Congressman Mike Lawler of the 17th district, says the end of the war will come when Hamas agrees to a cease-fire and releases the hostages…
Israeli defense officials have said the longer timeline would be the result of lower-intensity fighting, but the Times said that contradicts Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertion that Israel was “on the brink of victory” in its war against Hamas.
Newburgh Food Truck Busted at Center of Alleged Drug and Guns Ring in Orange County
A six-month investigation in Orange County has netted more than 11.5 kilograms of cocaine, 90 grams of fentanyl, and 31 weapons including ghost guns. News 12 says 33 people have been charged in connection to the huge weapons and drugs trafficking ring code-named “Hot Lunch,” because it centered around a food truck parked outside the Newburgh City Courthouse. Orange County D-A David Hoovler said it was the largest case of its kind in County history. 26 people have been taken into custody, but police are asking the public for assistance in locating four more suspects.
Dominican University Celebrates 363 Graduates
Dominican University held its 70th Annual Commencement earlier this month at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
