Bill to Exempt EMS Services from EZ-Pass Tolls Passes Assembly

A bill that would let area ambulance corps be exempt from EZ-Pass tolls while going to and from emergencies has passed the New York State Assembly. The bill is sponsored by Assemblyman Chris Eachus of the 99th District, covering Stony Point and parts of Orange County. He told “The Morning Show” Tuesday under the old system EMS organizations were able to apply for compensation, but that was a time-consuming process…

And those kinds of costs added up for EMS services. Eachus’ bill would give emergency responders a free pass on the tolled roads and bridges. A similar bill is in the Senate’s Transportation committee, and has yet to come up for a vote.

Red Lobster Files for Bankruptcy, Following Nanuet Restaurant’s Closing Last Week

Following the abrupt closing of the Nanuet Red Lobster and others in the area last week, seemingly without warning, the company has filed for bankruptcy. The Associated Press says the filing came on Sunday. WRCR market analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management in Chestnut Ridge says their all-you-can-eat shrimp deals aren’t the only problems the casual dining chain had…

Red Lobster said some of its 600 restaurants, aside form the ones that already closed, would continue to operate through the bankruptcy proceedings.

Answers Sought in Ramapo After Several Incidents Involving School Buses

School bus companies that serve students in Ramapo met with the town’s supervisor and others recently to discuss safety protocols in the wake of several high-profile incidents, near-misses and fatalities. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht told “The Morning Show” Monday hopes to not have any other incidents, and to help the police are beefing up patrols in known trouble spots…

Rockland County Executive Ed Day understand the frustration some have with the seeming lack of accountability after a bus was seen on video passing a truck on Kearsing Parkway in Monsey and nearly hitting another school bus head-on, but for that situation, it comes down to a personnel matter…

Specht noted in that case the incident wasn’t witnessed by an officer so no criminal charges could be filed.

Clarkstown’s Supervisor Recalls Last Conversations with Councilman Mark Woods Who Passed Early Friday Morning

Funeral services for Clarkstown’s Ward One Councilman who passed away early Friday morning are tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday after Memorial Day, though the final details are still being worked out. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann said he last spoke with Mark Woods Thursday night after they both had public events on their schedules and considered getting a late-night meal, but Mark instead opted to meet up with his son…

The town’s board meeting scheduled for the 28th has been cancelled and no discussion has yet taken place about filling the Ward One seat on the town board. Mark was elected to his first term as a councilman this past November, he was a decorated retired NYPD Detective and Combat Army Veteran who served in Afghanistan. At the time of his death, he was serving as Director of the Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Services program at Bridges, and he hosted a monthly program here on WRCR called “Thank You For Your Service,” his final broadcast was just last month. He was 54 years old.
