WRCR Market Analyst: Current Ticket Sales System Leaves Room for Abuse

The United States Justice Department is getting ready to file a lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster for violating antitrust laws by using their power to take advantage of the competition. That’s according to The Wall Street Journal. WRCR market analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management in Chestnut Ridge says the way the current system of ticket purchasing is structured, there’s too much room for abuse…

Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged 12 years ago. The lawsuit could be unveiled in the next few weeks. Live Nation and Ticketmaster are often viewed as a monopoly within the ticket industry, resulting in high ticket prices and fees as well as poor customer service.

Repairs Take Over Some Rockland Roadways

Some well-traveled roads in Rockland County will be shut down starting today for the next few days. The Rockland County Highway Department will be closing North Pascack Road in Nanuet only in the southbound direction at the one-way tunnel between the South Pascack Road / Lawrence Street intersection and Smith Road mornings at 7:30 am until 4pm to perform utility work. For the town of Ramapo, Highway Superintendent Fred Brinn says work continues repairing potholes that have popped up over the winter…

Ramapo villages such as Airmont, Spring Valley and Suffern have their own highway departments and, as such, maintain their own roads. Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says there are several roads in his town that’ll be worked on this season…

Over in the town of Clarkstown, Gilchrest Road will be temporarily closed today through Thursday, April 25th, at the railroad crossing between Stern Place and Sasson Terrace in Valley Cottage. Clarkstown Police say CSX is doing some construction upgrades. Detour signs are posted.

NY Passes State Budget

It took nearly three weeks past the deadline, but New York State finally has the next fiscal year’s budget in place. Assembly Speaker, Democrat Carl Heastie, said the $237 billion spending plan includes funding for affordable housing, increases in TAP funding to put higher education within reach of more students, and investments in hospitals and nursing homes. State Senator, Democrat James Skoufis of Orange County, slammed Governor Kathy Hochul for not taking care of the communities decimated by last summer’s heavy rainstorm, despite her promises…

Hochul says the budget includes transformative investments in health care and education that will put New York on the path to fiscal stability. The budget now heads to her desk to be approved. 

Investigation into Pomona Temple Fire Continues

We’re learning more about the fire last week that destroyed a Pomona synagogue early Wednesday morning. The fire broke out at “Chassidim of the Heights” around 5:30 Wednesday morning at 34 North Ridge Road in Pomona. On Friday’s “Who Wants to Be a Volunteer,” Rockland’s Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Chris Kear, said it took about five hours to battle the blaze. Kear said volunteers from the Hillcrest Fire Department made an aggressive initial attack, but the fire was already too intense, and the structure could not be saved…

A Jewish website, Matzav.com, reported that three Torahs were destroyed in the fire. Kear says the cause of the blaze is under investigation, and there were no injuries.

Rockland Marks 54th Annual Earth Day

Today is the 54th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event to spotlight environmental protection efforts.
