Area residents are mourning the loss of a local pastor who died on Easter Sunday. Pastor Michael Keane of the Church of St. Anastasia in Harriman said on Facebook Friday he was suffering from an intestinal obstruction that required surgery and was rushed to the emergency room in Pennsylvania where he was with family. Clarkstown supervisor George Hoehmann said he knew him well, and said he will be deeply missed. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
Rockland Legislature Passes Bill Seeking Compensation for Congestion Pricing
Though the MTA’s controversial congestion pricing plan to toll drivers who enter the zone below 60th street from various points outside the city was approved last week, it still faces a few hurdles. There are expected to be “crossing credits” for drivers who use any of the four tunnels to get into Manhattan, the Lincoln, the Holland, the Queens-Midtown and the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnels. Cars would be tolled $15 to enter Manhattan below 60th Street, while trucks could be charged up to $36, depending on size.

A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, obscuring the view of the sun. Monday’s total solar eclipse will cross North America, and New York is one of the states within the eclipse’s path, reaching totality at approximately 3:15 pm. The viewing event is being held, weather permitting, from 2:30 – 4pm on Monday, April 8th, at Haverstraw Bay Park at 21 Gagan Road in Haverstraw. Special eclipse-viewing glasses will be provided for free to those who need them. If you go, make sure you bring chairs and maybe a blanket to comfortably view the eclipse.
Nyack Man Indicted by Rockland Grand Jury in March Slashing Incident on Main Street
A Nyack man has been indicted by a Rockland County Grand Jury for Assault, stemming from an incident two weeks ago. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says 63 year-old Eddie Sanchez was arguing with a 46 year-old man from Orangetown when he slashed the victim across the face, leaving him with a four-inch long wound on the left side of his lower cheek requiring nearly 30 stitches. The incident took place on the sidewalk on Main Street in Nyack and Walsh says it was witnessed by several people. Walsh says Sanchez fled the scene but was caught a short time later. Sanchez faces up to 25 years in state prison if convicted of the top charge. He is currently on probation from a prior conviction from an assault just last year.
Rockland Police Mourn Loss of NYPD Officer Killed During Traffic Stop
Representatives from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and area police departments paid their respects to 31 year-old NYPD officer Jonathan Dilller whose funeral services were held Saturday on Long Island. Diller was shot and killed last Monday during a traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says the incident is further proof that the state’s bail reform laws are not working…
Officer Diller was promoted to detective during his funeral service. The alleged gunman, 34-year-old Guy Rivera, has been charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
