Stony Point Police arrested two men from the city and looking for one more after getting reports that people were removing mail from mailboxes that weren’t their own in Tomkins Cove early Tuesday afternoon. Police say they caught up to a suspicious vehicle on Mott Farm Road shortly after noon. They tried to stop the car, but the driver sped off, eventually skidding off the roadway, heading down an embankment and bursting into flames. A juvenile exited the car and surrendered to police. Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco says his department was among several police agencies assisting the Stony Point police…
18-year-old Sekou Touray of the Bronx was arrested and charged with fourth degree grand larceny, petit larceny, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released and is due in Stony Point Justice Court next week. An unidentified 15-year male from Manhattan was charged with fourth degree grand larceny and petit larceny. He was released to a family member. Two other unidentified males were interviewed and released with no criminal charges. The investigation is on-going. Rockland is celebrating a court victory over the timing of future local elections, but an appeal of the decision is likely. A New York State Supreme Court judge late Tuesday ruled that the new state law, which would make many local elections run at the same time as state and federal elections in even-numbered years, violates New York’s Constitution. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says he was pleased to see the court recognize the importance that local government has in residents’ lives…
Proponents of the law said the move would make for more cost-efficient elections and encourage more participation, but Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny doesn’t buy it…
Orange County State Senator James Skoufis, who led the charge in support of the law, said he wasn’t surprised by the decision…
Skoufis says the decision will be appealed.

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm Wednesday evening south of Tampa Bay, but by this morning it was slowly moving away from Florida’s eastern shores by Cape Canaveral and out to sea. Tampa was hit hard, with flooding still a major concern, and power knocked out for more than three million residents across the state. Former Rocklander, Barbara, who lives in West Palm Beach, says her area wasn’t hit very hard, though she did see a tornado…
The Associated Press said storm surge is still a concern in many parts of Florida. CNN reported the storm ripped the roof off of Tropicana Field, the ballpark where the Tampa Bay Rays play baseball. It had been intended to be used as a makeshift shelter for thousands of first responders and cleanup crew.

Details are sketchy at this time, but Stony Point Police say they arrested four suspects early yesterday afternoon after reports of suspicious activity near Mott Farm Road and Kelly Court just off Route 9W in Tomkins Cove. Police say a vehicle crashed and caught fire. It’s not clear yet what caused the crash or why the suspects were taken into custody. We’ll have more information as the situation unfolds. Shooting in Haverstraw
Haverstraw Police are looking for anyone who may know anything related to a shooting that reportedly took place on Wayne Street in the Village of Haverstraw early Sunday morning. In a post on Facebook yesterday, police said one victim was treated for non- life-threatening injuries.
