Rockland has a new Director of the Office for the Aging. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says Cheryl Dean Ward has served as Director of Events and Development with the Venture Foundation for the last seven years. She’s also worked as the Director of Events and Food Service at Henry Kaufman Campgrounds, she’s run her own event planning company, and served as a consultant for Long-term Care facilities throughout New York City, Westchester and Rockland counties.

Funeral Services to be Held Friday for Founder of Caribbean Food Delights in Tappan, Jeanette HoSang
Funeral services are being held tomorrow for the founder of a long-time food manufacturing company that became a big part of the Orangetown and Rockland County communities. Jeanette HoSang of Caribbean Food Delights in Tappan passed away on August 30th at her home in Pleasantville. She and her husband, Vincent, began their Royal Caribbean Bakery in 1978 on Dyre Avenue in the Bronx, and the company currently has their world headquarters and manufacturing facility on Route 303 in Tappan. Visitation will be at Pleasant Manor Funeral Home in Thornwood tomorrow from 4-8PM. Religious services and tributes will be offered on Saturday, September 14th at White Plains Presbyterian Church at 11AM with visitation being held at 10AM. She will be laid to rest in her family mausoleum in Valhalla, New York. She was 78 years old.
Rockland Ceremonies Reflect on September 11th Terror Attacks
Today is the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks on the city and the Pentagon. Ceremonies are being held throughout the county. A bell will toll at 8:46 for the first plane crash on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, again at 9:03 for the second plane crash into the South Tower. Bells will ring to mark the attack on the Pentagon, the collapse of the Towers, the crash of flight 93 in Pennsylvania, and for the 1993 Trade Center bombing. Over in Clarkstown, supervisor George Hoehmann says they’ll be holding a ceremony at 5pm tonight at the town’s 9-11 memorial outside town hall…

Former Rockland Congressman and Gun Violence Prevention Group Make Appeal for Stronger Gun Laws, Slam Congressman Lawler’s Gun Voting Record
The Democratic party’s candidate for Congress here in the Hudson Valley’s 17th district led a rally against guns yesterday at the party’s Nanuet headquarters. Former Congressman Mondaire Jones is running against incumbent Republican Mike Lawler. Jones said the recent shooting in Georgia should push the issue of gun control to the front and center of the presidential campaign…
Shari Maurer of New City, a volunteer with the group “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America,” took aim at Lawler’s record when it comes to gun control…
