A Massachusetts man was killed late Saturday night after crashing his car on the Palisades Parkway Sunday in Ramapo. New York State Police say 36 year-old Angel Mangual of Fitchburg was traveling south on the Parkway when his car left the roadway in Pomona, struck multiple trees and overturned, ejecting him from his 2006 Saab. He was pronounced dead at the scene. So far, it’s not known what led to the crash. The incident remains under investigation. Monsey Fire Department Bails Out So-Called “Brigade,” Finds Carbon Monoxide Leak They Reportedly Missed
The town of Ramapo, its police department and local fire officials are looking to keep tragedies to a minimum even as state law doesn’t prevent the so-called Monsey Rogue Fire Brigade from responding when called. This, as tragedy was averted last Tuesday after the real volunteer firefighters were called in to save several families that almost succumbed to a carbon monoxide leak in their home that wasn’t properly identified by the brigade. On Friday’s “Who Wants to be a Volunteer” Program, Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear said last week’s incident happened at a multi-family residence on Phyllis Terrace in Monsey. In a statement on Instagram, the brigade, known as the “RCMA,” said they did everything right last Tuesday, and over the last 18 months they have saved countless lives and multiple structures. ‘Specht says he doesn’t expect anything to happen legislatively before the next session begins in January. He also stresses residents should call 911 in case of an emergency, not the brigade.
Pomona Man Faces Max Three Years in Federal Prison After Guilty Plea to Failing to Report Revenue
A Pomona man faces prison time after pleading guilty in federal court of failing to report more than $1 million in revenue from two companies. The Journal News reports 56 year-old Michael Maroff ran General Home Systems Corp., a renovation company, and rental property management company, Monroe Commercial Properties. He reportedly deposited renters’ money into his own accounts over a three-year period. Maroff is scheduled to be sentenced next May, and faces up to three years in federal prison.
Rockland Honors Victims of Brinks Robbery on 43rd Anniversary of Ambush in Nanuet, Nyack
Rockland law enforcement and residents came out to honor the three victims of the Brink’s robbery that occurred 43 years ago yesterday. Two members of the former Nyack Police Department and a Brink’s guard were gunned down by members of the Black Liberation Army and Weather Underground after a robbery at the old Nanuet Mall. At the service held at the Brink’s Memorial in Nyack yesterday, Haverstraw Police Chief, John Gould Junior, said his grandfather, a Clarkstown Police Detective, was among the many Rockland police officials who were on scene that day and part of the subsequent investigation. Gould said his father was also called in while off-duty with the Haverstraw Police Department to help locate witnesses and suspects, following the ambush that took the lives of Sergeant Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown and guard Peter Paige…

Former Nyack Police Chief Dies at 94
Funeral services have been scheduled for a former Nyack Police Chief who passed away on Saturday. Thomas George Coffey of Pearl River served with the Nyack Police department beginning in 1956 and retired as chief 32 years later. Coffey was a long-standing member of the New York State and Rockland County Retired Chiefs of Police Associations, the American Legion, and supported Blue Star families, The Boys Club, he ran and supported the Camp Shanks Museum for many years, and was an active member of the Korean War Veterans’ organization. Visitation will be held at Hannemann Funeral Home on South Broadway in Nyack on Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at St. Aedan’s Church, in Pearl River at 10am. He was 94 years old.
