Two Stony Point men were arrested last week after they were allegedly caught in the act of stealing copper wiring and pipes from a basement building located on Patriot Hills Drive. Stony Point Police say 58 year-old Joseph Squillante and 18 year-old Matthew Daniels were found inside the basement at 8 Patriot Hills Drive along with a large bundle of copper pipes, brass fittings, a battery-operated saw with extra batteries, and a headlamp. They were arrested without incident and charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglar Tools, Criminal Mischief and other charges. They were arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court, Squillante was sent to the Rockland County Jail, Daniels was released on his own recognizance.
Victims of Brinks Robbery to be Honored at 43rd Anniversary Ceremony in Nyack Sunday
43 years ago Monday, two Nyack police officers and a Brinks guard were gunned down by members of the Black Liberation Army and Weather Underground. They jumped from the back of a truck and ambushed them following a robbery at the old Nanuet Mall, making off with $1.6 million from a Brinks armored truck. Rockland officials and law enforcement personnel will pay tribute to Sergeant Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown and guard Peter Paige on Sunday in Nyack. NYers to Vote on Proposition One This November

After Seven Years, Rockland To Take Steps to Develop Abandoned Sain Building in New City
Rockland County officials have taken a step toward replacing an abandoned county office building in the heart of New City. The County Executive and nine members of the Legislature, along with Clarkstown’s Supervisor, yesterday announced a plan to redevelop the Sain Building on New Hempstead Road, which has been vacant for seven years, possibly into mixed-use commercial space and workforce housing. Rockland County Executive Ed Day says the Legislature’s Leadership has agreed to declare the property surplus, making it possible for the county to move ahead to redevelop site…
Rockland Legislator Beth Davidson, who represents District 10 in Clarkstown and serves as the vice-chair of the Legislature’s Housing Committee, told “The Morning Show” over the summer that they’re looking at all options…
Yesterday’s announcement suggested the site could be used for mixed-use commercial space and workforce housing. Once the Legislature declares the property as “surplus,” the County’s Division of Purchasing will issue a Request for Proposals for the redevelopment of the nearly 3.7-acre site.
