Arrests were made over the weekend at a major border crossing between the U.S. and Canada to end a blockade by Canadian truckers who were protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates. “Morning Show” listener and occasional contributor “Jimmy” said it all came down to free speech and free choice…
The so-called “Freedom Convoy” sparked copycat protests here in the U.S., and around the world, though it appears a rumored trucker action at the Super Bowl did not materialize.

Three lifelong Haverstraw residents were honored last week as part of the town’s Black History Month celebrations. Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips says the trio has been instrumental in multicultural festivities in the community…
Phillips says the three were given a bouquet of flowers, a gift and a plaque. He said they never did it for the recognition, but because they love their community.

A New City group that helps people with special needs is celebrating 75 years of service. Since 1947, Jawonio has been helping children and adults reach their fullest potential and live independent lives. Jawonio CEO Randi Rios-Castro says the group will continue to grow and expand services in new ways…

A bi-partisan group of Rockland state lawmakers got together yesterday with the family of Jared Lloyd, the Spring Valley firefighter killed last year, to announce an effort to name a stretch of Route 45 in the village in his honor. State Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, and Assemblymen Mike Lawler and Ken Zebrowski all introduced a bill this week to designate the state roadway between New Hempstead Road and East Eckerson Road as “Jared Lloyd Memorial Highway.” Jared’s mother, Sabrail Davenport, was moved by the gesture…
And that was Calvin Lloyd, Jared’s father. Dozens of Rockland emergency services members attended the event, prompting Betty Lloyd, Jared’s aunt, to burst into tears…
Jared Lloyd was a member of Columbian Fire Engine Co. No. 1 for more than 15 years. He was killed while rescuing residents at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults last March.
