The town of Stony Point has a new Superintendent of Highways and council member. Supervisor Jim Monaghan says Larry Brissing retired after almost 19 years on the job, and he’s being replaced by Councilman Karl Javenes…
Monaghan says the street by the Highway Garage will be named in Brissing’s honor next week. The board also hired Kaitlin Gutenberger as the town’s second female police officer. Monaghan says Kaitlin is a North Rockland High School graduate, and went to St. Thomas Aquinas College for criminal justice…
Gutenberger will start six months of training at the Rockland Police Academy next week.

O&R is urging customers to make sure they see a company identification card before letting any O&R contractors do work on their home. The advisory comes after a customer in Stony Point last week said two men impersonating O&R workers were going door-to-door around town, warning residents that their “government credits were about to expire.” O&R Spokesman Mike Donovan says under no circumstances should you let anyone access your home before confirming their affiliation with the utility…
Donovan says all O&R employees and contractors must have their color photo I.D. cards. If someone comes to your door claiming to be an O&R employee or contractor, just ask to see that card. If you think the contractor is a fraud, call O&R at 1-877-434-4100, or lock your door and call the police.

The town of Haverstraw has reflective sashes available at town hall for those who want to be more visible at night while walking or jogging. Supervisor Howard Phillips says 2,500 sashes were donated by Dr. Greg Strauss, president of Rockland Urgent Care on Route 9W in West Haverstraw, to give out to area residents…
Phillips says there are about 500 left. You can pick them up at town hall.

The John M. Perry Post 1044 American Legion in Sparkill is hosting a People and Pet Food Drive tomorrow. For people, they’re collecting unopened, non-perishable foods, canned goods, rice, cereal, water and more, and for pets, they need canned and dry food, leashes, blankets, and treats. Orangetown supervisor Teresa Kenny says while there are plenty of pets who need your help, her dog isn’t one of them…
The people and pet food drive is tomorrow from 10-3pm at the American Legion in Sparkill on Route 340. People food will go to the “People to People” food pantry in Nanuet, and the pet food will go to HiTor Shelter in Pomona.
