The man who drowned Sunday at Lake Sebago has been identified. New York State Police say 31 year-old Carlos Gomez Tay of Palisades Park, New Jersey, was at the lake with his family and had gone swimming. Around 6:30 Sunday evening he swam out about 100 feet away from his family and then started calling for help. Police say he went under the water and did not resurface. Family members tried to help then called 911. He was found by the Thiells Fire Department and Stony Point Dive team.
Rockland Officials Warn Drivers to Be Careful Around School Buses as Classes Return
School is right around the corner and that means school buses are right around the same corners. Just about all of them are armed with cameras from BusPatrol, which has partnered with Rockland County to help catch those who illegally pass school buses when their stop lights have been activated. At a press conference yesterday at Clarkstown High School North, County Executive Ed Day said more than 17,000 citations were issued to drivers for passing a school bus in Rockland last school year…
Statistics show that on a daily basis, 50,000 cars pass stopped school buses in New York State. Clarkstown School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Baiocco said they’ll also be looking at what’s happening on the buses…
Day said the enforcement isn’t about the money, it’s about safety. There are financial penalties, however, the first violation is $250, the second is $275, and a third will set you back $300.
Haverstraw Supervisor Concerned as Supermarket Prepares to Close

“The Hive” Kosher Supermarket Shuts in Ramapo, Could Re-Open by Jewish Holidays
A new kosher supermarket in Ramapo is now closed, but it may be coming back soon, possibly in time for the Jewish holidays coming up in October. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says “The Hive,” which took over the former Shop Rite in Airmont, was apparently having some financial challenges…

Rockland First Responders Located Man Who Drowned Sunday in Lake Sebago
Area first responders, including the Stony Point Dive team, helped State Police locate a drowning victim Sunday in Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park. The Thiells Fire Department said they were contacted around 6:30 Sunday afternoon and quickly located the unidentified man approximately 45 feet from shore. No other information was available. New York State Police are investigating the incident.
