The Suffern Chamber of Commerce is launching its Restaurant Week this Sunday. Participating restaurants are offering three- and four-course dinners for less than 29 bucks. Nicole Russodivito is with the Suffern Chamber of Commerce and says all COVID health measures are being taken…

Rockland County’s Health Commissioner: Wear Masks and Get Vaccinated, Boosted Now

Rockland County’s Health Commissioner is sounding the alarm on the rising number of COVID cases in the county. In a statement yesterday afternoon, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert urged all residents – vaccinated and unvaccinated – to protect themselves from the current surge of COVID-19 by wearing a mask that fully covers their nose and mouth in all indoor public spaces and when gathering with people who do not live in your home. On Friday, Rockland County Executive Ed Day told “The Morning Show” the county’s distributed KN-95 masks to Rockland’s five towns…

In her daily COVID press conference yesterday, New York governor Kathy Hochul said hospital capacity is a concern upstate where vaccination rates aren’t what they should be, particularly in the Finger Lakes, Central New York, and Mohawk Valley regions of the state, while that’s not yet an issue downstate, where the hospitals are helping with upstate overflow…

For additional COVID-19 protection, Dr. Ruppert encourages those who have been vaccinated already to get their booster shot as soon as you are eligible. For unvaccinated children 5 and older, she says get fully vaccinated now.

Rockland Safety Officials Offer Tips Following Fatal Bronx Fire

This weekend’s fatal fire in the Bronx has Rockland’s top safety official offering advice as the temperatures dip below freezing. A space heater and a possibly faulty open door have been targeted as causes of the blaze, allowing the fire and smoke to spread quickly through the building. Rockland’s Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear says if you’re going to use a portable space heater, it should be UL listed – there’s a sticker on the unit itself or on the box it came in. Kear says it should only be plugged directly into the wall, not to an extension cord or a multi-plug adapter…

Kear says if there is a fire in a room, attempts should be made to close the door as you leave, to keep the smoke and fire confined to that room, if possible. Leaving any door or window open provides oxygen to the fire, helping it grow and spread. Sunday’s five-alarm fire in the Bronx at a 120-unit apartment building left at least 17 people dead, including eight children.
