The Rockland County Legislature filled leadership posts last night, with District 3 legislator Jay Hood selected as Chairman and District 14’s Aney Paul returning as Vice Chairwoman. Democrats elected District 6’s Alden Wolfe as Majority Leader and Republicans elected District 5’s Lon Hofstein as Minority Leader. District 7’s Philip Soskin was appointed Deputy Majority Leader and District 16’s Vincent Tyer was appointed Deputy Minority Leader.

Fed Starts Reducing Asset Purchase Program, Local Experts Weigh in on How That Could Affect Future Home Buyers

Now that the U.S. Federal Reserve has said they would be reducing its asset purchase program, a local mortgage expert says it’s not clear how that might affect future home buyers. The program was introduced in March 2020 to protect the economy from the COVID pandemic. Ann Zeilingold of FM Home Loans in Pomona says the Fed’s decision late last year to taper their purchase of mortgage-backed securities could cause rates to go up a bit…

WRCR Market Analyst Ken Mahoney of Mahoney Asset Management in Chestnut Ridge agrees, the rates won’t change very much based on the Fed’s actions…

Reuters reports the Fed expects to phase out buying mortgage-backed securities completely by June.

Clarkstown, Orangetown to Hold Re-Org Meetings Tonight, Attendance Limited Due to COVID

Two Rockland towns will be holding ceremonial swearing-in ceremonies later tonight. In Clarkstown, supervisor George Hoehmann won’t be giving an official state of the town address, but he will briefly touch upon some of the goals he has for the town in 2022…

Hoehmann says he’ll give a more complete summary of the state of the town this spring. Over in Orangetown, supervisor Teresa Kenny says she’ll highlight some of the town’s goals, but she’s disappointed COVID has limited the ceremony…

Clarkstown’s ceremony gets underway at town hall in New City at 7pm, and Orangetown’s is being held at town hall in Orangeburg, also at 7pm. Both will have limited in-person attendance due to COVID, but will be streamed online.
