Governor Opens Additional COVID Testing Sites, But Not One for Rockland

Despite pleas from area officials to open a COVID testing center at the Anthony Wayne recreation center, the governor has thus far declined to do so. Last week, Rockland state senators Elijah Reichlin-Melnick and James Skoufis, and Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski joined Rockland County Executive Ed Day in asking for the drive-thru center to be re-opened. On Friday, Governor Kathy Hochul opened 13 more testing sites around the state, but Anthony Wayne isn’t one of them…

But county executive Day has thus far refused to make Health Department staff available to enforce the state’s indoor mask-wearing mandate, instead focusing their efforts where he feels they are more greatly needed…

Here in Rockland the active COVID case count has jumped from 2,523 reported on Wednesday to 3,462 as of Friday. The number of hospitalized with confirmed COVID cases has risen from 39 to 46. The death count remains at 1,010.

GoFundMe Set up for Pomona Family Following Saturday Night Fire

A Pomona family is recovering after a fire ripped through their home Saturday night. News 12 says a 1-year-old suffered third-degree burns but is expected to make a full recovery. Her mom reportedly suffered burns to her arms, stomach and face. She was last listed in stable condition at Westchester Medical Center. A GoFundMe page has raised nearly $5,000 thus far for the family.

Stony Point Supervisor Makes Letchworth Number One Priority for 2022

Airmont Expected to Vote on Marijuana Sales Tonight

The village of Airmont is expected tonight to decide whether to opt in or opt out of recreational marijuana sales. Earlier this month, Airmont attorney Scott Ugell suggested at a village board meeting that the better path would be to opt out, so they could have the power to regulate it in the future…

The public hearing and vote are being held tonight at 7pm. We have the Zoom meeting information in this news article on our website. Last week, town of Haverstraw supervisor Howard Phillips told “The Morning Show” that the board may decide to do nothing before year’s-end, thereby opting “in” to the state’s marijuana program by default. If that happens, they would be the only Rockland town to opt in.

Town of Haverstraw Leans Toward Opting “In” to Pot Sales by Default, May Not Take Vote

The town of Haverstraw is leaning toward opting “in” to the state’s marijuana sales program, but it may not happen with a vote of the town board. Supervisor Howard Phillips told “The Morning Show” yesterday the board may end up making no decision at all, and if that happens, they’d opt-in by default…

Callers to “The Morning Show” weren’t fans of Haverstraw’s strategy…

Rockland’s other four towns have already opted out, citing the state’s still incomplete rules and regulations. The village of Airmont has scheduled a public hearing and vote for this Monday at 7pm. According to the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government public policy think tank, among the villages, West Haverstraw, Pomona, Sloatsburg and Suffern have opted out. Piermont, Chestnut Ridge, have opted in on cannabis dispensaries while opting out on cannabis lounges, and Wesley Hills has opted in on both.
