Eagle Bay Condo Project Clears Another Hurdle in Stony Point

The Eagle Bay condo project in Stony Point has cleared another hurdle before construction can begin. Stony Point supervisor Jim Monaghan says the Planning Board has given preliminary approval to the 260-unit, 2- and 3-bedroom rental project…

The developer still needs a DEC permit to build a walkway / pier, and CSX Transportation needs to grant a permit to pave the way for a secondary entrance that would go under the railroad tracks. Monaghan says Eagle Bay could get all final approvals by the middle of next year.

Ramapo Continues Clearing Trees from Children’s Park in Chestnut Ridge

Dead tree cleanup continues in Children’s Park in Chestnut Ridge and could be complete by next week. A caller to “The Morning Show” on Monday urged Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht to do something about the mess left behind by the recently cut-down trees…

Specht hopes the cleanup will be wrapped up by next week or at least have an update as to when it will be complete. The park is also open later than usual this winter to help accommodate residents who have been eager to keep up with outdoor activities before it gets too cold.

Rockland COVID Death Count Climbs, County Exec. Asks Governor to Re-open Anthony Wayne Testing Center

The COVID death toll is up again in Rockland, it now stands at 1,006, up one since last week. But the big jump in the county is in active cases, with an increase of more than 800 to 2,121, and hospitalizations, which has nearly doubled in the last two weeks, two-thirds of those are unvaccinated. Rockland’s county executive says 20 percent of hospital beds and 38 percent of ICU beds are available at Good Samaritan and Nyack Hospitals, leaving plenty of capacity for daily emergencies and regularly scheduled procedures. County Executive Ed Day wants Rocklanders to get vaccinated and boosted, wear masks if they want, and suggests getting tested before attending holiday gatherings or family events. Hochul also said $65 million is being made available to counties to help with the cost of administering vaccines and boosters and enforcing last week’s indoor mask mandate. Meanwhile, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach also reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. He was also fully vaccinated and recently got a booster shot. His symptoms are said to be mild, but he’s isolating at home.

Fire Disrupts Class at Spring Valley Yeshiva, No One Injured

No one was injured after a fire broke out at a Spring Valley Yeshiva for Girls yesterday. That’s according to VINnews.com, which said the Grandview Avenue school was evacuated though the fire was in a separate facility on the property that was under construction. Though initial reports suggested the students had no place to go at first, in an email to parents, the school’s dean thanked two other nearby private schools and the Grandview Elementary School, which is across the street, for temporarily taking their students in from the cold.
