The town of Ramapo is hosting a turkey giveaway on Monday for seniors and veterans, it’s a partnership with the “Veterans Angels” organization. Ramapo supervisor Michael Specht says the supply is limited, and it’s first come, first served…
That number again is 845-357-5100. The turkey giveaway is being held in the Supervisor’s office at Ramapo Town Hall on Monday starting at 1pm.

A Spring Valley volunteer firefighter will be sentenced early next year after pleading guilty last week to stealing around $38-thousand from the fire companies he worked with. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says Christopher Nau, the Treasurer for the Columbian Engine Company and Assistant Treasurer for the Spring Valley Fire Department, will have to pay back the funds he took. Walsh says the money Nau took over a five-year period starting in January 2016 were unrelated to the donations that were set aside for fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd, who was killed in the blaze at the Evergreen Home for Adults last March. Nau will be sentenced on the charge of felony third degree Grand Larceny next March.

Clarkstown has become the latest Rockland town to opt out of recreational marijuana sales. Supervisor George Hoehmann says Tuesday’s unanimous vote takes the town out of the business of selling of marijuana, and there won’t be any pot lounges in town either…
Meanwhile, over in the town of Ramapo, the village of Airmont has scheduled a public hearing and a vote on whether to opt in or opt out of recreational marijuana sales in the village. Airmont attorney Scott Ugell last week at a village board meeting suggested the better path would be to opt out, so they could have the power to regulate it in the future…
The public hearing and vote have been scheduled for Monday, December 27th at 7pm. The only town yet to commit is Haverstraw. They are still reviewing their options and expect to make a decision before the end of the year.

Starting tomorrow, state and local law enforcement agencies throughout New York will be stepping up patrols through New Year’s Day looking for impaired drivers during the holiday season. Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco says someday, perhaps soon, he hopes to have the equivalent of a Breathalizer test for suspects who drive high on drugs…
This campaign is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related accidents.

You can also bring new and unwrapped toys and clothing to the Pomona Health Complex in Buildings A, C, L and T, there are drop boxes in those locations as well.
