No injuries reported after a car struck a hose that was being used to fill the diesel tank at the Shell station last evening on Little Tor Road in New City. Clarkstown Police say around 50 gallons of fuel spilled. HazMat cleaned up the scene.
Rockland Lawmaker’s “Sextortion” Bill Signed by Governor
A Rockland lawmaker is hailing a bill signed last week by the governor that makes it easier to prosecute those who try to threaten or harm someone by sending intimate pictures of them over the internet. Rockland assemblyman Ken Zebrowski says the so-called “Sextortion” bill will give prosecutors teeth when previously, such crimes went unprosecuted…
The bill, which becomes effective in December, was part of a package relating to online safety. The new laws will also establish a task force to study the effects of cyber-bullying.
Strides Pharma Purchases Endo Plant in Chestnut Ridge
A new pharmaceutical company is taking over where Endo and Par pharma left off here in Rockland. Governor Kathy Hochul announced Monday that Strides Pharma of India, which has operations in Florida and New Jersey, is opening and expanding a manufacturing and marketing facility on Ram Ridge Road in Chestnut Ridge. Suffern High School Mourns Loss of Former Student Who Died in Charity Contest Earlier This Month
Suffern High School is yet again mourning the loss of one of their own. A former Suffern student reportedly died last week after choking during a charity eating contest in Massachusetts. 20 year-old Madelyn Nicpon was a junior at Tufts University and died at Massachusetts General Hospital on October 17th. Around 3,000 students, faculty and staff held a candlelight vigil on campus that night in her honor. Nicpon played lacrosse, field hockey, and indoor track for Suffern High and was a member of the National Honor Society. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Nicpon family cover funeral expenses. 16 year-old Jacqueline Zangrilli was killed in a car accident in April, and senior football standout Steven Sanon died unexpectedly in February.
Rockland’s Congressman Urges “Yes” Votes on Three Election Day Ballot Proposals
Rockland’s Congressman is among a group of area federal lawmakers who are urging New Yorkers to vote “Yes” on three of the five proposals that are on the ballot here in New York this Election Day. The first three initiatives they’re concerned about focus on reforming the redistricting process, the elimination of voter registration deadlines, and the accessibility of absentee ballots. Congressman Mondaire Jones says 19 states have passed new laws making it harder for their residents to vote, and that, he says, must change…
