O&R Seeks PSC Permission on Two-Year Project for Orangetown and Clarkstown

Orange and Rockland Utilities is looking to start a new, $52.6-million, two-year electric system construction project in the southwest section of Clarkstown that would improve electric service for about 45,000 O&R customers. O&R asked the state Public Service Commission last month to review the proposal. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says the new underground transmission line would be installed mainly within secondary public roadways, and connect the company’s substation in Nanuet with another substation in West Nyack…

The project would put 5.5 miles of new electric transmission cable underground. The PSC’s public review process is expected to take a year to 18 months to complete.

The Concert for Life is being held Saturday in Stony Point to benefit single mothers at the Good Counsel Home in Spring Valley. Chris Bell is the Executive Director of Good Counsel Homes, and says the group gives new, homeless moms a chance to raise their child and get back on their feet…

The event is being held Saturday at 1:30 at the Marian Shrine on Filors Lane in Stony Point. The concert features soprano Megan Weston and Michael Fennelly, world-acclaimed soprano and pianist. New City Teen Faces up to Four Years Behind Bars After Pleading Guilty to Fatal Drunk Driving Crash

A New City teen will spend up to four years in state prison after pleading guilty yesterday to driving while intoxicated, killing 16 year-old Clarkstown North High School student, Vlad Hvalyk, and injuring a 17 year-old girl, both passengers in his car. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh says 18 year-old Alan Mendoza pleaded guilty yesterday to aggravated vehicular homicide. The incident occurred on May 6th. Walsh says Mendoza struck two other vehicles after crossing over a double-yellow line, and then struck a tree on Congers Road. Mendoza is expected to get 1 and 1/3 to four years in state prison when he is sentenced next May.

NY Launches Homeowner Assistance Fund

New York has become the first state to get approval from the U.S. Treasury Department to launch a Homeowner Assistance Fund. Governor Kathy Hochul says the fund will provide up to $539 million for eligible homeowners so they can avoid mortgage delinquency, default, and foreclosure…

SUEZ New York’s Director of External Affairs Bill Madden says you should disconnect and drain any outdoor garden hoses to keep outdoor faucets and pipes from breaking…
